Getting started: How to use the Money.net Blackberry Mobile Application (click here for iPhone Guide )

Signing up:

To sign up for streaming real time quotes on your Blackberry, start by going to www.money.net and signing up for your free 7 day trial.
If you are already a Money.net member, you can add the blackberry application to your existing account and your Portfolios will be linked!


Downloading the application:

After you have completed the signup, go to www.money.net from your blackberry device. Our website will automatically detect that you are logging in from a blackberry and will give you the download options. Follow the quick and easy directions on the screen.
Once the download is completed, you can click run. A Money.net icon will automatically be created on your main blackberry menu.
If you do not see the icon on your main menu, look in your Downloads folder. For example, if you have the Blackberry Bold, the icon will be in your Downloads folder, and you can move
the icon to your home screen.


First launch / Set up:

When the application is started for the first time, it presents the user with the preferences view, where the user
has to enter his or her Money.net Mobile user name and password, as well as set up network and other preferences .


Preferences

You can set up the following preferences:

  • User name and password
  • Data to display in watchlist and portfolio screens
  • Network settings:
    • Wifi on/off. By default, wifi is turned off, if you have wifi available, select on button for faster updates.
    • Keep default set as proxy. If AT&T is your carrier and you do not see data with the proxy setting, try changing the mode to AT&T.
Press the Save button to save your preferences. The application will then attempt
to log in and load data.


Using the application - some things you should know:

  • Be patient in loading your data. Speed depends on the type of signal and what information you are loading.
  • The indices on the home page, Watchlists, and Quick Quotes will all load in a streaming format.
  • Portfolios will load in a snapshot format. You will have to click stream to start the quotes streaming.
  • Pressing the menu button on your Blackberry will also give you access to:
    Home, News, Watchlists, Portfolios, Preferences and Close buttons.
  • The default stream time for all data is one minute. This can be extended in the preferences.
  • The application will automatically close if you switch to another application.


Home screen:

Each time you click the Money.net Icon on your blackberry application, the application will start in the Home Screen.

  • Streaming quotes on the Dow, Nasdaq and S&P indices will automatically load.
  • You can also get a QUICK QUOTE by scrolling down to the symbol box, entering a symbol, sliding over to GO and pressing enter.
  • You can also access your WATCHLIST and PORTFOLIO from this screen.


News:

Clicking on the News button will give you brief headlines of breaking news stories.
News headlines will be updated every 15 minutes throughout the day only.
Only news headlines are currently available


Watchlists:

You can access your watchlist two ways:

  • From any page, press the menu tab and go to watchlist option
  • From the Home screen, slide down to watchlist and hit enter

  • To create new watchlist, click Create new and a new watchlist will appear in your list.
  • Click on the new or existing watchlist you would like to access.
  • To rename the watchlist, click on the name (within the watchlist) and simply rename it. You must scroll out of the text area for the change to take effect.
  • To enter symbols, slide down to the symbol box, enter symbol and click go.
  • To change the display preferences hit menu or the preference tab on the top right of all screens.
  • To get detail on a symbol, click on it.
  • To delete a symbol, click on the specific symbol to be deleted and scroll to the bottom of the detail page where you will see remove from list.
  • You can create a maximum of 10 watchlists with 10 stocks in each.
Watchlist's net gain is a sum of individual stocks' net gain values.


Portfolios:

The portfolio section is for existing Money.net Screamer users. You can view your Screamer portfolios but you must click on refresh list. This will take several minutes the first time to download all your information. Each day, the first time you login, the list should refresh automatically.
You can access your portfolios two ways

  • From any page, press the menu tab and go to portfolio option.
  • From the Home screen, slide down to portfolio and hit enter.

Changes to your portfolio must be made from your desktop Screamer application.
Both portfolio and watchlist views display the stock data, which is customizable in the preferences.


Stock detail:

Stock detail view displays all the available data fields for a given ticker symbol.
To change the stock's net gain value, scroll down and enter the share amount and the share price information. This will be saved automatically.


Provider-specific issues:

T-Mobile subscribers may need to manually set their APN settings:
  Go into Options
  Click "Advanced,"
  Scroll down to "TCP"
  Type in wap.voicestream.com for the APN. User name and password can be left blank.
