Macintosh Help

Mac Users: Important Update

If you are experiencing disappearing windows within the SCREAMER, hold the Control key + Click on a symbol to see all of the available features and the window will stay visible until you make your selection. Can I make the Streaming Portfolio Tracker run on my Macintosh? YES!

Mac System Requirements: MacOS 8.5 or higher, Internet Explorer 4.5 or higher*, at least 96 MB of Physical Ram.

*We do not reccomend using Netscape Communicator on the Macintosh.

Step One

Mac users should always make sure that their Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ) is up-to-date. To download the latest version of the MRJ, Click Here.

Once the download has completed, you will see a file named MRJ_2.2.5.smi located on your desktop. Double-click the file MRJ_2.2.5.smi. A new file named MRJ Install will now appear on your desktop. Double-click the MRJ Install and a window will open, within which will be a file named Installer. Double-click the Installer and Accept the Apple License Agreement. Now the Installation process will begin.

Step Two

If you have Internet Explorer 4.5 or higher, proceed to STEP THREE.

If You do not have Internet Explorer 4.5 or higher on your machine, please visit the Microsoft Internet Explorer Download page. Follow the online download and installation instructions.

Step Three

If you have Internet Explorer running, quit the application and open up your Macintosh HD. Locate the folder "Internet Explorer 4.5" or "Internet Explorer 5". Open the folder and single click on the Internet Explorer icon (seen below).

Then go to File > Get Info > Memory. Set the Minimum Size to 4096 and the Preferred Size to 35000 (see below).

Step Four

When using Internet Explorer, set the browser to use Apple's MRJ (2.2 or higher). MRJ is Apple's version of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) for the Macintosh and is preferable to IE's default version. To enable MRJ in Internet Explorer 4.5, select Edit > Preferences > JAVA. Mac users who have still trouble loading the Streaming Real-Time Quote Tracker or not updating on it under Internet Explorer 4.5 or 5.0, please use the following steps:

Go to Edit > Preferences > Web Browser > Java > Security Options > Network Access > & under it, please choose "Unrestricted Access". This will help Mac IE users receive data faster on the Screamer. To upgrade to Internet Explorer 5.0, please visit the Microsoft Internet Explorer Download page.

Please check back periodically for information updates.

Thank you for your support and patience,
The Money.net staff
